A bolt of lightning carves a line through the northern sky, lighting up the clouds and silhouetting the tree across the field, before ending below the horizon.
One of the things I absolute love about photography is the ability to take the mundane or everyday, and capture it in a way that it just can't be seen with the human eye. Maybe that's taking an image of the stars at night, letting moving car lights or running water blend together in a long exposure, getting super up close with a macro shot, or something more. In this case, a quirk of how lenses work created the effect of the tree's twisting branches blurring in and out of focus, almost like a dream. I found the almost animated nature of these branches even more pronounced in black and white, thus the final image.
Encountered this walking home one day and thought it made for an interesting composition.
