And The Lands Shall Burn

Plumes of smoke billow into the air, carried by the prairie winds as the flames that dance upon the earth below lend an orange aura to the scene. Presumably, this is part of the controlled range burning that farmers engage in every year in rural Kansas.

Cracks in the Ice

As a function of temperature and of time, ice melts. And, as ice melts, it cracks. These cracks happen all throughout the frozen water, forming as various parts of the hunk of ice begin to re-liquify while others remain solid. I'm in love with the abstract lines and textures that formed inside my miniaturized glacier, and the way they changed and shifted as it melted.

Dark Clockwork

I love the look of machines. Industrial photography is one of my favorite types to look at and to shoot. The gears in this clock have amazed me since the first time I saw them.

Frosted Tree

This morning I woke up to my Tree-Across-the-Field coated in a layer of white frost, along with all the other trees in the area. In half a year of taken over a dozen photos of this same tree, each one showing a different bit of weather or a different scene, each one unique and yet connected.

Gravy Amongst the Pumpkins

I definitely learned something about working with "difficult" models through this experience. While I'm pretty happy with how these photos came out, they weren't created without their share of hardships, including: a living room covered in straw, several broken pumpkin stems, an a lot of me rolling around on the floor like an idiot. Also at one point Gravy got jealous that it was Frank's turn in front of the camera, and bit him.

Green Skittle

Wanted to shoot something bright, colorful, and with a bit of a pop feel to it, so I decided to play around with some dramatically lit macro shots of Skittles. Skittles aren't my favorite candy. More and more I find myself enjoying chocolate, whereas young me might very well have called Skittles a favorite. Now too many of them gives me a headache 😵 That said, I still ate all the green ones...

Old and New

I loved the juxtaposition of the old, beat up and rusty windmill alongside the wind turbine farm. Both things are just so incredibly "Kansas" that I had to capture them together.

A makeshift wooden ladder propped up against a stone wall. My childhood was filled with stuff like this. Adventure around every corner, secrets hiding in every pile of leaves. Monsters lurking behind every dark patch of trees. Magic and mystery are everywhere, as long as you never stop looking for them.
