Enjoy Thirst

One of my goals for 2020 is to get better at the production aspect of photography. My comfort zone has always been "found photography"; go on a walk, see something interesting, shoot it. So the #FlickrFriday weekly challenges have been a great way to push myself to try new and different things. This week's challenge is "Splash", so I wanted to capture the cool refreshing splash of a cold drink being poured on a hot summer day. I've slowly been working on putting together a make-shift "studio" for this sort of work, so I arranged a little shoot. The hardest part was shooting while pouring, because I didn't have another person on hand to help, but using a wireless mouse and some remote tethering software I managed. To be honest, I'm pretty happy with the final result, and I look forward to trying more shoots like this in the future.

The Godfather

If it wasn't already clear tonight, I definitely have pasta on the brain. This time, rather than try to capture the odd shapes and patterns of the pasta itself, I decided to go with something a little more meta, and emulate a poster for The Godfather that I quite like.

Vortices

Rigatoni, like rotini, is a twisty type of pasta. Unlike rotini though, rigatoni is also a hallow tube. In my humble opinion as the world's leading expert on pasta, this makes them superior for holding on to sauces, and other sources of flavor.

Spirals

Curly pasta, straight pasta, oddly shaped pasta; pasta easily makes it onto my list of favorite foods. Red sauce, white sauce, butter with salt and pepper; it doesn't matter. I love it!

Tri-Color

I know I've shared a lot of pasta shots recently, but the funny thing is this is actually the photograph I set out to create when I got started on this little carb-fueled vignette. Of course, me being me, when I bought the 20 different kinds of pasta I'd use to create all my other shots, I forgot to get the most important variety, the tri-color rotini I needed to make this photo. Well, I finally got around to getting my errands in order, and that included the aforementioned macaroni/spinach/tomato product (that's where the red and green colors come from, if you were curious), and the pasta arc is finally over... ...or is it?!

Bread & Butter

Bread & Butter is probably one of the most basic food combos available, and yet it's easily one of the tastiest. Definitely a nice comfort food...at least for me...

Green Skittle

Wanted to shoot something bright, colorful, and with a bit of a pop feel to it, so I decided to play around with some dramatically lit macro shots of Skittles. Skittles aren't my favorite candy. More and more I find myself enjoying chocolate, whereas young me might very well have called Skittles a favorite.
